If reports are right it was a king's ransom too. Two Firsts (2009 and 2010), a Third (assume 2009 but have not seen that reported yet) and Orton for Cutler and a Fifth.

Yikes. I wasn't necessarily opposed to trading for him per se, but that price is just insane. I'd be livid if we gave up that kind of package.
Assuming that cost is right (and I have not been able to confirm it yet so who knows...), I wonder if McDaniels liked Orton better than Campbell. Can't imagine Vinny and Danny not being willing to toss in a third as well to met the competition. *shrug*
You know, it could be this isn't over yet. Wouldn't be the first time there was a third-party deal in the works. Maybe the Bears really want someone else (like Campbell, say), but needed someone (like Cutler, say) to pry him loose from the Redskins ... who do, after all, really, really like Jason and will need some more wooing.

Well, I agree that it may not be over--I could still see us trading Campbell somewhere--but I think it's over as far as the Bears are concerned. I think they could have had Csmpbell fairly cheaply if they really wanted him, without going to thr trouble of trading for Cutler.

Dammit, we're going to have to upgrade sooner than I thought. This board software apparently doesn't transmit tongue-in-cheek.

Assuming Campbell's still the guy for 2009, this quote from the Post article intrigued me. One complaint about Campbell is that he's passionless, too mechanical. I sense a hint of fire in his comments below, a sort of "f-em, I'll show them" mentality.
----
While Campbell conducted himself professionally as the Redskins shopped him, and took the high road again yesterday, he is a proud person and his calm demeanor should not be mistaken as a sign of weakness, a source close to Campbell said.
"In a lot of ways, you have a lot of feelings about this, but there's also a lot of stuff you just keep on the inside," Campbell said. "You just go out there with a little bit more passion, a little bit more of a chip on your shoulder. Out of all of this, something good has got to come out of it.
"Maybe it's just that you stay positive, you keep working hard for the people that matter to you and you keep trying to be the best you can be. I really believe that everything I've gone through only prepares me to be a stronger person and a stronger quarterback. But this also shows you a lot. It shows you your true value to some people." -- (From the 2nd page of http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/04/02/AR2009040204148.html )
