Suits me fine, really. Byron's got talent, but isn't any more a natural fit in the modified WCO than Jason is. Add to that the effect of bringing in another starter to be the backup and all the intrigue that would cause, and I'm just as happy to turn the page.
Now, should Tom Brady suddenly become available ...
I'd personally like to see Colt be given the chance to see if he can make the next step to advance to number 2. - Would be a positive indication of progress if he could. (No, not trying to open the "Start Colt" can of worms)

While it would be nice to see Brennan progress, i don't think anyone should safely say he's number 2 without seeing him play versus at least a few guys that will be starting defensive players in the regular season.
In my mind, your backup has to be a guy who has at least seen the line of scrimmage in regular season play.
