Ok the title says it all. This needs to be done three ways:
-Who do you want to see the Skins draft?
-Who do you think they’ll draft?
-Who do you not want them to draft?
For me:
-I’d love for the Skins to draft Michael Oher or Eugene Moore if either were to fall to us. Otherwise I would rather see us trade down since there is a lot of good value near the top of the 2nd round. I’m afraid that the team feels that they’ve done enough for the offensive line by getting Dockery back which leads me to …..
-….who I think the Skins will draft. I think they will go LB here. Someone like Aaron Mayben, Clay Mathews (who might be a bitof a reach here) or Brian Cushing. I don’t know how I feel about any of these guys honestly. Aaron Curry seems to be the only “can’t miss” LB in this draft and he’ll be long gone by the time we pick. I guess taking a LB or some sort of hybrid DE/LB would be ok since we need to take advantage of what Haynesworth is going to bring to the table. Just as long as we don’t take….
-….Andre Smith. Too many question marks about this guy. His smarts, his dedication to staying in shape, ect. Why take a chance on a guy like this? If you have any questions at all you need to pass.

I'm an Alabama fan and watched quite a few of their games last season. Andre Smith, regardless of the poor decisions he's made recently, played outstanding football throughout his career in the SEC and would be an absolute mauler for us at RT (and a LT in waiting) so he is my choice for pick 13. I can't imagine he will be there for us though and expect a concerted effort to trade down and eventually pick a lower 1st rounder and a 2nd. To get that 2nd, I think we'd have to throw a player into the mix.
If Andre isn't there, I'd really like to trade down low in the first round, pick up a second rounder and draft DE/OLB Everette Brown and Center Alex Mack if we could get him with the second.
I really don't follow the build-up to the draft or watch enough college football to even have an opinion on individual players. (However, with that said, I am a complete draft wonk on the Saturday and Sunday of the event, complete with mock draft listings, player ratings, and markers to cross the selected off the lists. Weird, huh?)
I do hope that our picks are focused in the following areas though:
Offense- a tackle & a snorting, snot-rocketing, tough as nails center
Defense- a strong, smart, fast as a deer outside linebacker
Defense- a long, tall, track-star pass rushing DE
That's not too much to ask for, is it?
Okay, so maybe it is.
Gimme one from my offensive options and one from the defensive options?
If for some reason Brian Orakpo fell to us, him. Do not pass go, do not collect any trade offers.
However, we live in the real world where that won't happen. So, if you REALLY think that Samuals can mold the young lad; Andre Smith. He has the skills, the technique, and when he's actually in shape, the body to be a prime player.
I'm not in the war room on this, I don't know how his interaction with the team has been thus far.
If he's given you any doubt (besides the other stuff he's already done) then go with Oher.
In the later rounds... give me one, at least ONE Horton type gem. LB or DL.
I predict we either draft a bunch of guys that are reaches or unknown to anyone other than Vinnie. Or we trade either up or down to get more or less picks and get guys that no one predicted because we don't really need them, like we'll probably draft a couple of safeties, some wide recievers, another tight end or two. Oh yeah, and another kicker.
Sorry, not real confident in the draft and I really don't know why.
The other day I taped an NFL network show called Countdown to the Draft (I think). I taped it because in the promo they said they were going to cover the Skins draft.
I was real disappointed with the time they devoted to the team. It amounted to a 3 minute spot interviewing Frank Hanrahan and asking him what he thought of the off season acquisitions and who he thought we would draft. He thought we over paid for all of out off season talent and was not convinced Haynesworth would “put the team over the top”. That's fine but there was no explanation as to why he felt that way. He thought we would draft Rey Maualuga MLB from USC in the 1st. Not a lot of meat on this interview or the segment at all.
On the same show Charlie Caserly said his top lineman was Andre Smith.
This is an odd draft year for us I think. Even though we have a lot of holes and a pseudo-high pick, most of the players we'd need and that fit our offensive/defensive systems are likely to be long gone when our turn comes around. Those that are likely to fall to us at 13 have some serious questions.
I know how much we need a RT and a DE. However, given the risks inherent in taking Oher or Smith I could see Vinny taking one of the LBs instead. Unfortunately, other than Curry, I think they're all a bit of a reach at 13 so going that route would mean accepting a lesser player at a position of less importance in exchange for lower risk .
I'm kind of at a point where I'd say that we probably have to take Oher or Smith if they're there because of our big time need at RT. However I'd be lying through my teeth if I said I didn't expect at least one of them to be a bust.
