How do you all feel about this ... the software offers a "ranking" system, I simply haven't activated it. Personally, I'm happy either way.
If we do decide to use it, we have unlimited options for categories, rank names and post thresholds. I did this just as an example:
0-25 ............. Draft Pick 26-100 ......... Rookie 101-250 ....... Starter 251-1000 ..... Pro Bowler 1001-2500 ... All Pro 2501+ .......... Hall of Famer
Not original or sexy, but hey.
Note that we can always try it out and de-activate it again if we don't like it.
Take it or leave it, Om. It can be cute but it can also be incentive for some folks to post just to post. I doubt you are going to see much of that here though.

Another "No" here. It gives the idea that someone with a lot of posts has an expertise that someone with fewer posts doesn't. Maybe I'm over analyzing it, but there just seems like there is so much drama on other boards with ranking systems like that.
It's not going to stop me from posting one way or another though. The beer is cold here and someone told me Code was going to fire up the grill and do burgers later.

Don't know if anyone saw, by the way, but I actually had the feature activated for a few hours a couple days ago. Then I turned it off again because ... well ... I remembered that part of me has always thought it was kinda silly. The only practical reason I ever bought into was that it does encourage some folks to post, which on a new board makes sense. On the other hand, as we've learned, the kind of posting it encourages is not always necessarily what we're after.
I missed this earlier but I agree. At one point I really liked the idea but as you all say, it eventually created at least a partial incentive for some folks to pad their post counts.
Oh wait, I said too much. Please disregard my comments above. I'll restate it by saying "+1". :)
Agreed. Quality over quantity. You could maybe add a Legacy style system...
I don't know if it has that though, based more on time with the board vs. post count.
Just a thought.
In the end, it's your board and hence you will be the one clicking the activate button.
Missed the Legacy suggestion before. I actually like that idea, but don't think this program has the functionality. Definitely something to keep in mind for the eventual upgrade, however.
As to this being "my board" ... I guess that's technically true, but it's honestly not the way I'm approaching this. The plan is to take the board in whatever direction the community decides on as we go. We're going to have fun building this thing to specification.
