Haven't seen or heard anything out of the team that would have me think so. The kneejerk reaction on Snyder is still such that the media almost reflexively throws the Redskins name out there any time a big-name player becomes available. In this case, as with most others in the past few years, I think it's all just farts in the wind.

I don't think so. Every time any disgruntled player is on the move the Skins are going to be mentioned. I've sort of gotten used to it over the years: Favre, Ocho Cinco, Peppers, ect. I guess if push came to shove I could be swayed by the idea of Cutler here although I do have some reservations.

I don't know the whole story of what happened out in Denver. You either have a cry baby player or a semi suicidal head coach who doesn't know what the hell he's doing. I like what I see when I watch Cutler play. I liked him when he was at Vandy.

Mort was just on ESPN and he seems to think that the Skins are interested in moving up to get Mark Sanchez if they can't find a way to get Cutler. Whaaa??? Mort is out in left field on a lot of stuff, but where is he getting this? Just because we worked Sanchez out? That seemed more like a team just being prudent. You don't want to just assume the guy will be gone. We need to prepare for as many draft situations as possible. Do you guys see it as more than that.

Mort's report can't be ignored outright. Love him or hate him, he does have legitimate sources.

Yeah ... when I wrote the post above none of that had broken yet. And here I had pretty much moved on from the whole "should we or shouldn't we" thing.

Every time I think I'm out, they drag me back in.

Yeah, I agree. Mort's been wrong before, but it's pretty rare that he'd come out with something that didn't at least have a shred of truth to it. Most other media members lazily get caught up in the Snyder hype and just assume the Skins are involved in everything. But I see Mort differently.

At this point I actually believe we're in the mix. Not saying we'll get Cutler, but I believe we're going after him. I just sincerely hope we don't get into some bidding war and pay some ungodly price. Of course, if our FO decides that they desperately want him, they probably won't be outbid.

Something about the way Zorn has answered questions about the Cutler/Campbell dynamic has my eyebrows raised. He was asked if he had reassured Jason that his job is safe, and Zorn essentially said that they did not have that conversation. Seems like it would be a pretty relevant conversation to have.

My guess is this is because Zorn knows that the team will at least test the waters on Cutler.

Ok, things may be getting interesting...

Redskins Trying to Land Cutler (Updated)

Here's what Jason LaCanora and Jason Reid have so far on Cutler. This adds a quote from Jason Campbell from earlier in the day.

The Washington Redskins are actively pursuing a trade for disgruntled Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler tonight, according to NFL sources.

One source said the Redskins are trying to complete the deal as quickly as possible although at least two other teams, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets, are also reportedly interested in acquiring Cutler. The two-year starter became available today when the Broncos announced they would trade him. Denver officials could not be reached for comment tonight.

Where there's smoke there's fire.

And this may soon turn into a 4-alarm.

The Jets and the Bucs won't be easy to beat, but someone is going to pay too much.

Hope it's not us.

Again.

What do you think it will take?

Two firsts and a qb?

Hopefully not much more than Campbell and the #13 pick. Any more than that and I think it's a bad move. Two firsts for Cutler is a king's ransom.

Didn't we almost commit two firsts to Cincy for Ocho Cinco?

That's what was reported. Two firsts for Cutler wouldn't be as dumb as that, but I still wouldn't like it.
