Rumors last week were saying that some front office folks in the league thought Cutler worth 2 Firsts and a current QB... Not sure I buy it but I am afraid Vinny will.

I think we're definitely going after him. I'll play contrarian to an extent, in that I'm less concerned about what Cutler would cost us than I am whether Cutler is the 'real deal'. I just haven't paid attention enough to know whether he really is a franchise guy or not. If he is, 2 first rounders isn't all that expensive.

I think my other concern is that, no matter how solid a QB is, you can't just keep changing course every 2 years and expect to get anywhere special. It takes time. Short of this being a media-created fallacy, we almost have to get him now. Campbell is going to be seriously questioning the team's support now, either way, and that can't help us in him taking the next step if he does turn out to be the guy in 2009.

This has got Snyder written all over it. Somehow I can't help but think that if it looks like a duck, and walks like a duck...

I fully expect to wake up later this AM and hear quacking. Just sayin'

I'm with you. Just when I thought the franchise had learned to develop its own players and value its draft picks instead of overvaluing other teams players and dealing their draft picks, they make me feel like a dummy.

Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice, er, you can't get fooled twice.

You know what? I think I want Cutler.....just because. Our philosophy/chemistry is already all over the place, so let's just go ahead and complete the three-ring cicus. Maybe one of these days it will just work.

This one isn't like going after a Haynesworth ... this is going after a potential Franchise QB. Changes all the rules.

IF Cutler is that guy, any team as QB-starved as the Redskins have been for a generation has to at the very least explore the possibility. 25-year-old Franchise QB's just heading into their prime don't come around often. One does, you better make your play.

I've been a Campbell guy all along, but four years in I'll admit I'm about convinced he could well be a solid QB for the next few years, it's harder and harder for me to envision him becoming The Man. So to me it comes down to whether or not the team believes Jay Cutler is The Man. If they do, they have to look into this seriously.

Scary part is, as I'm sure most Redskins fan are, I'm not all that confident in the team's ability to make that call.

I'm kinda with you on this kleese...after much deliberation, I'm no longer opposed to the idea of getting Cutler. But I am terrified about what we'd have to give up.

The pads are very slimming.

-----------------

Here are a couple of items from PFT (I know...I know....)

Zorn, Cerrato, Snyder Spent Huddled All Day In Snyder’s Office

We’re told via a short chain of reliable sources that things were interesting this morning in Washington.

As we hear it, Redskins executive V.P. of football operations Vinny Cerrato was retrieved from draft meetings at roughly 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday to go to owner Daniel Snyder’s office.  Not long thereafter, they fetched coach Jim Zorn.

And the three men remained in Snyder’s office into the evening.

The obvious implication?  They’re working on this whole Jay Cutler thing.

Or maybe they were playing Call of Duty.

Rumors Fly Of Redskins’ Efforts To Move Campbell

Amid reports that the Washington Redskins are actively pursuing a trade for Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, we’ve caught wind of rumors that the Redskins are trying to trade current starter Jason Campbell.

We need to emphasize that this is a rumor, and we’re currently trying to nail down whether or not it’s an accurate rumor.

Campbell is under contract through 2009.  Talk of signing him to a new contract subsided significantly after his strong start to the 2008 season faded into something less than that.

...and therein lies the rub. Like many of you, I'm not completely sold on JC. However, if we give up two first rounders, it will probably be three years before we can assemble enough of a team around Cutler to even have a shot at a SB. And that's assuming Cutler doesn't end up as Jeff George 2.0.

I have an original idea. How about we (and by "we" I mean Snyder) show some patience, draft the RT we need, and stick with JC for 16 more games? Heck, how about just 8-10 games and give Colt a shot. Yeah, remember him Danny?

There's another option. If Danny simply can't get past his impatience to get another QB yesterday, then why not draft Sanchez and keep the additional pick or two to put additional players around him.

Yeah, we've got a plan and we're systematically working the plan....until we're not. Sheesh. rolleyes

I can't help but think that McDaniels knows a thing or two about great QBs and that if he was even remotely interested in bringing in Cassel he is not convinced Cutler is all that and a bag of chips. Which makes me ask, do I want a guy quarterbacking my team that McDaniels is willing to let go (granted, it is for the low, low price of two first round picks)?

Just a thought...

Let’s look at some recent NFL QB deals. The Texans swapped 1st round picks and threw in a 2nd to Atlanta to get Matt Schaub. The Chiefs gave up the #34 pick to New England to get Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel. It seems to me that KC got the better end of that deal by a mile. Maybe it was a payback to Piolli for his years of service there. Who knows?

I do know this: If we make any deal for Cutler that we are going to get fleeced if recent history is a guide. We traded Champ Bailey AND a 2nd round pick for Portis. We gave a 3rd for Brunell (a guy they were going to cut). We gave up a 3rd and 4th for Brandon Lloyd.

Regardless of how this turns out McDaniels had better win and quickly out in Denver or his name is going to be Mud. Even with the crappy defensive team they had last season they were in the mix all season. That division stinks. 8-8 won the division last year.
