I think you will have your answer come draft day, Om. If Vinny goes LB at #13 we know how he feels about the OL, especially if one of the big 4 OTs is still on the board. If he trades back to get more picks and uses a first or second on OL or if he uses #13 on the OL straight up, I would consider that a better sign of having learned something.

Although I fear we are stuck with a patch work line as long as Vinny is running personnel because we know his stated position on drafting big men high... *sigh*

Campbell is not the problem on this team. He's also not the solution.

Given that, I don't really care about the Cutler drama one way or the other.

I haven't been a big Cutler fan. Not torn up about missing out on him.

That said, if I WAS sold on him, I'd have wanted the Redskins to give up the farm for him. If the Bears feel that he is the goods, then the price they paid is meaningless.

You have to have superior QB play to win consistently in the NFL. Period. End of story. Yes, everything else is important, too, but a superior QB "tilts the field" (as Al Davis said about Namath back in the day).

The Redskins do not have that. I'm encouraged to see that the FO recognizes this and is not satisfied with sub-standard QB play. Campbell was the biggest offensive problem last season. I don't believe it's his mechanics or delivery or anything. He simply does not play the game quickly enough in his head. Doesn't mean he's an idiot - Ramsey was a double major at Tulane and had the same problem. Call it feel or anticipation or whatever - a few have it, most don't. You watch a Brees, or Manning, or Brady, and when that plant foot hits, the ball is coming out quickly and accurately to the correct target. Campbell just doesn't seem able to do this. Either that, or the defense was just sitting on the receiver routes (which points to Zorn).

Make no mistake, Campbell had time in the second half of the season. He could have made even more time had he been able to make defenses pay for crowding the LOS. I'm resting the problem with the passing game right at the feet of Campbell/Zorn. If they don't step up their games, then it's going to be another uneven season.

To me it's just a bad situation all around.

I'd have loved to have Cutler in the b&g.  I was actually pissed because my buddy is a broncos fan and I was teasing him for days leading up to the trade.  I just KNEW Cutler was going to be a Redskin so i guess my hopes got up too high.

The wife even warned me that it hadn't happened yet but that didn't stop me from getting excited.

Now we're looking at NO CUTLER, the organization has alienated their current starter, and there is really no hope for the position unless a 6th round college phenom named Colt Brennen lives up to his 2006 draft position (1st round).

The Skins haven't had a legit QB in years.

Sad.

The song remains the same, doesn't it? The Redskins have been searching in vain for a legitimate big-time starting QB since Joe Theismann went down in 1985.

We've had flashes---Rypien in '90-'91, B. Johnson in the first half of '99, T. Collins for 4 games in '07---but overall it has been a steady procession of mediocrity at the single most crucial position in all of professional sports.

I did a piece a couple of years ago naming all the QB's who had started games for the Redskins in the 20 or so years since Theismann had gone down, and if I recall correctly it was somewhere around 18. We're heading into Year 24 still looking.

Could be worse I guess. The Detroit Lions have been floundering around w/o a QB since they traded away Bobby Layne 51 years ago in 1958. And the Bears may or may not have just gotten their first legit QB since Sid Luckman retired 59 years ago in 1950 (sorry Jim McMahon).  I keep reminding myself of that every time I get too upset over our inability to land one in "just" 24.

If anyone knows of a good voodoo QB Dance we can do, speak up.

This pretty much sums it up for me.  In one way, I would have loved to have gotten Cutler, but the next part of me is like, what would it have cost?  A 2009 and 2010 first rounder just seems to steep.  I think the Bears overpaid.

I really hope JC uses the opportunity as a chip on the shoulder to prove to the front office brass he can not only play in this league, but play well and win.  That will be part of the excitement of the season is to see exactly how Jason Campbell responds.

Mixed emotions on this one.
